HISTORY BEHIND THE CAUSE FOR REVERSING YOUR DIAGNOSIS
A diagnosis refers to the act or process of discovering or identifying a diseased condition through medical examination or laboratory tests. It also involves carefully examining and analyzing facts to understand or explain something. In this context, the former meaning is applicable.
During my childhood, I witnessed my mother’s relentless efforts to combat diabetes. At that time, there was limited information available about the causes and resolutions of diabetes. Consequently, she relied solely on medications and medical advice. Despite her best efforts, diabetes claimed her life at a young age, leaving me feeling angry and bereft. As a young woman, all I knew was that diabetes had taken away my mother when we needed her the most. This led to a passionate despise for the illness, fueled by my lack of understanding about its causes, effects, do’s and don’ts, and the overall reality surrounding it.
Fast forward several years and after giving birth to four children, I received a diagnosis that shook me to the core – Type 2 diabetes, the very illness I had dreaded and despised. I had noticed signs, but each time I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy, I assumed it would disappear once I gave birth. Little did I know, it was the beginning of the development of full-blown Type 2 diabetes. A year after my last child’s birth, I received a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis at the brink of a diabetic coma. I was shattered and broken, the news hitting me like an explosive shock. I vividly remember breaking down and crying in the office of the nutritionist my Primary Care Physician had referred me to. For a long time, I had been living in denial, and the fear of the unknown had permeated every aspect of my life.
Around the same time, I also received a diagnosis of three herniated discs in my spine. There were moments when I felt completely bedridden and paralyzed, unable to perform everyday tasks or even walk. I had to rely on others to assist me, and the realization that these diagnoses were not the result of an accident or something I was born with but possibly self-inflicted due to my ignorance and lack of awareness was disheartening.
Most of the medical professionals I consulted regarding my health treated me as just another case, but there were a few exceptions. I visited neurosurgeons, chiropractors, spine specialists, nutritionists, foot specialists, therapists, and countless others. At one point, a spine specialist informed me that if therapy or injections didn’t work, I might have to undergo invasive surgery to shave off the discs, as the treatment for herniated discs typically involved medication, self-care, therapies, and medical procedures, with surgery being the last resort.
Strangely enough, I am grateful for the medical professionals who treated me poorly throughout my journey. Their dismissive approach made me realize that I didn’t want to be treated like a mere number or a guinea pig. It was this realization that brought me to where I am today. After being denied insurance coverage for the medications I needed to better regulate my blood sugar levels, I encountered a professional who only offered quick fixes without considering my long term health goals. In that moment, I decided to take matters into my own hands and walk away from it all to see healing ‘MY WAY’ – the natural way – God being my help.
That’s when my research began, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey filled with both sorrow and joy. However, it was only when my husband started experimenting with food, and I witnessed the remarkable results he achieved despite his already healthy lifestyle, that got me to intensify my research into food and its impact on the longevity of chronic diseases.
